What is the Research Project About?
This project aims to explore the communication of clinical genomic information with people from Culturally and Linguistically Diverse (CALD) backgrounds. To do this we plan to explore the perceptions of healthcare interpreters and genetics professionals across Australia on how well genomic information is communicated with the CALD community, and what recommendations can be made to this service for the CALD community.
Who is Running the Project?
This project is being conducted by research student Mr Emanuel Jacobs with the aid of the Australian Genomics Health Alliance. Completion of this project will contribute towards Mr Jacobs Master of Genetic Counselling degree at the University of Melbourne.
Who is Being Asked to Take Part?
You are being asked to take part if you are employed as a healthcare interpreter for individuals from CALD backgrounds.
What do I Need to do in This Research Project?
We invite you to complete the survey, which will take approximately 10 minutes to complete. The purpose of this survey is not to test your knowledge, but simply to gain an understanding of your views. The survey includes questions about your opinions on how well CALD individuals understand the genomic information that you translate for them, the resources currently available and what resources would be helpful for communication in this setting.
If you would like more information about this project or would like to participate, please contact Emanuel Jacobs via email at: firstname.lastname@example.org.
