Sometimes candidates who have failed their Certification Test are eligible to apply for a Supplementary Test. If you are have been invited to sit a Supplementary Test, you must apply within 30 days of receiving your results. The supplementary test will involve re-sitting the failed task/s.

Certified Translator Information

The supplementary test will involve re-sitting only the task you failed in your Certified Translator (CT) Test. Please check your result e-mail about which task you previously failed and can re-sit.

You can sit the supplementary test only once per overall test.

Result & Certification
The supplementary test task will be assessed against the same criteria as the tasks in the Certified Translator Test. If you pass the supplementary test, NAATI will award you the Certified Translator credential.

If you fail the supplementary test, you will fail the Certified Translator Test. You can apply to sit another Certified Translator Test if you wish.

Test Details
Test details are the same as the Certified Translator test.

Translation of a Non-Specialised Text task: 75 minutes
Revision of a Non-Specialised Translation task: 60 minutes

Duration of Test
You may need to wait several hours for your test to start after you check in, depending on the number of candidates that day. Your test confirmation email will include specific information of the arrival time and expected completion time of the test session. One CPI task is around 15 minutes of preparation and up to 15 minutes of interpreting.

Certified Interpreter Information

The supplementary test will involve re-sitting only the task/s you failed in your Certified Interpreter (CI) Test. Please check your result e-mail about which task/s you previously failed and can re-sit.

You can sit the supplementary test only once.

Result & Certification
In order to pass the supplementary test, you must pass all of the tasks included in the test. The supplementary test tasks will be assessed against the same criteria as the tasks in the Certified Interpreter Test.

If you pass the supplementary test, NAATI will award you the Certified Interpreter credential. If you fail the supplementary test, you will fail the Certified Interpreter Test. You can apply to sit another Certified Interpreter Test if you wish.

However, NAATI will award you a Certified Provisional Interpreter credential if:

Spoken Languages:

  • You do not already hold a Certified Provisional Interpreter credential in the same language pair; AND
  • You pass two dialogue tasks as result of the original test and supplementary test; BUT you fail other tasks

Auslan

  • You do not already hold a Certified Provisional Interpreter credential in Auslan and English; AND
  • You pass two dialogue tasks and the monologue into Auslan task as result of the original test and supplementary test; BUT you fail other tasks
