The Translation and Interpreting program at Monash University is proud to commence a new cycle of online and in-person Professional Development (PD) short courses. Successful participants can yield 20, 40 or up to 60 PD Points
for NAATI recertification purposes.

- Introduction to Community Interpreting Practice
13 August (In-person)
Practice skills and gain the fundamental knowledge required to work as an interpreter in Australia. This course provides interpreting fundamentals, skills and knowledge, an overview of the T&I industry, NAATI certification pathways as well as practical exercises. The course is aimed at newcomers to the T&I industry. - Mental Health Interpreting
27 August to 10 September
Interested in mental health? See how clinical psychologists and other mental health professionals work with clients. Apply contextual knowledge, concepts, and terminology while reflecting on the challenges and best-practice examples of interpreting in mental health settings.
September 2022
- Health Interpreting
10 September to 24 September
Learn the ins and outs of health interpreting from healthcare experts and experienced interpreters. Revisit concepts or learn new ones while self-assessing your own practice. This course aims to provide a better understanding of the health system, the different professionals that work in healthcare, and how the interpreter’s role is situated in these settings.
- Simultaneous Interpreting
10 September to 24 September
Gain firsthand experience of interpreting in a booth or in chuchotage. Facilitated by a certified conference interpreter, the course explore the skills and concepts of Simultaneous Interpreting while you learn through practice in a simulated conference scenario. - Introduction to Interpreting in Family Violence Settings
24 September to 8 October
Designed to be completed at your own pace, the course offers the chance to share your thoughts with peers through online forums and discuss what is the expected best practice in these complex scenarios.
A bursary program is available for Victorian-based participants who could be eligible for heavily discounted fees.
October 2022
- Court Interpreting
1 October to 15 October
Insights into the Australian Court System and what constitutes best interpreting practice in these settings. Composed of presentations from expert professionals in the court and legal field, experienced interpreters, and practical interpreting exercises.

15 October to 29 October
This course is designed for interpreters to learn how to better deal with stressful, distressing, or confronting experiences encountered during the delivery of interpreting assignments. The course features professionals with expertise in professional interactions, stress management, self-care, and mindfulness.
