Get involved with a research project at Macquarie University

Calling out to all certified interpreters – you are invited to participate in a study conducted by Macquarie University exploring migrant experiences of multicultural Australia from the perspectives of community interpreters.

The purpose of the study is to gain a critical insight into migrants’ experiences with Australian multiculturalism and migrants’ efforts to claim their space in multicultural Australia. The project approaches interpreters both as migrants themselves and as channels for other migrant life stories to examine patterns of problems relating to language and race in both interpreters’ personal lives and interpreter-mediated institutional settings.

To participate, you must meet all of the following criteria:

  • NAATI-Certified Interpreter, at any level
  • Come from a migrant background
  • Commenced your professional careers anytime between the 1970s and the 2020s

This study involves two one-hour interviews conducted on Zoom, where you will be asked to respond to questions regarding your own migrant experiences as well as the experiences of others you have encountered throughout your professional interpreting career. Each interview will be video recorded, with consent from the participant.

In gratitude of the time spent on the research, you will receive a $50 GiftPay digital voucher for each interview ($100 in total).
