Language Service Provider (LSP) Endorsement Model – Development and implementation

About the LSP Endorsement Model

The Ministerial Forum on Multicultural Affairs – which is comprised of Australian, state and territory government ministers for multicultural affairs – has agreed to authorise NAATI to develop a model to endorse Language Service Providers (LSPs).

NAATI is jointly owned by the Australian, state and territory governments to set and maintain high national standards for the translating and interpreting sector. To that extent, NAATI is pleased to support governments in their efforts to address several of the issues currently impacting the accessibility, timeliness and quality of translating and interpreting services.

The LSP endorsement model is intended to improve service quality and consistency, and organisational accountability, through the establishment of a set of new, transparent requirements all LSPs must meet to obtain work on behalf of governments.

The LSP endorsement model is intended for use by Australian, state and territory government agencies. NAATI is expected to administer the model on behalf of governments.

In September 2025, Australian, state and territory government ministers for multicultural affairs convened and noted the progress that had been made on the establishment of the model. You can read the latest Communique here.

It is anticipated that the LSP endorsement model will commence from January 2026.

Consultation continues

NAATI will spend October 2025 consulting language services stakeholders to further refine a number of the measures. Further liaison with Australian, state and territory government representatives will take place in November 2025.

NAATI has established an Industry Consultative Group (ICG), and you are invited to participate!

The ICG is available to all language services stakeholders across Australia. Its intent is to provide visibility of the Model’s proposed requirements, and to garner stakeholder feedback.

Any individual can participate in ICG meetings, but they must register for the meetings of interest (below) to receive access to the meeting link. All meetings will be held virtually, via Microsoft Teams.
