Notice for NZ interpreters: Funding second NAATI tests – by 5pm 30 June 2025

The Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment (MBIE) is now able to fund second tests for interpreters for all entitlement note holders. This means if you have sat and failed a NAATI test which was funded by MBIE, you can apply to re-sit that test for free.

You must:

  • Have an MBIE-issued entitlement note
  • Book a test date for NAATI test/s funded by MBIE by 5pm (New Zealand time) on 30 June 2025. MBIE will not honour any outstanding entitlement notes after that time. The next available NAATI test date will likely be after 30 June 2025, but you must have made the booking by then.

If you do not have a current active application with NAATI, you must submit a new application to re-sit your test. We recommend you submit your application by 23 June 2025, as NAATI must process your application before you can select a test date. You must select your test date by 5pm (New Zealand time) on 30 June 2025.

Any tests booked after 5pm (NZ time) 30 June 2025 will not be funded by MBIE, so interpreters must pay for any second tests themselves.

If you have already paid for a second attempt yourself, please contact the Language Assistance Services team at las@mbie.govt.nz.

How to book a test

  1. If you do not have an active application, please login to your myNAATI account and submit a new application. Make sure to indicate that your application will be sponsored by MBIE and upload your entitlement note again. We recommend you submit your application by 23 June 2025 at the latest.
  2. NAATI will process your application. This may take a few days.
  3. Once your application is approved, login to myNAATI and select “Manage my tests” to select a test date.
  4. If you have trouble booking a test date, please contact us at info@naati.com.au as soon as possible for assistance. Make sure to include your Customer Number and indicate that your application is being sponsored by MBIE.
