myNAATI and directory listing updates

In March 2026, NAATI will launch a new consumer-focused website with an improved online directory and new profile features for practitioners. These updates give practitioners more control over their directory profile and let them showcase additional information to help consumers find the right professional for the job. Practitioners can manage what is shown on their profile at any time in myNAATI.

What is changing?

  • Each practitioner profile will have its own unique, shareable URL, giving practitioners the option to use it as a marketing tool.
  • Practitioners will have the choice to display more information on their profiles. We expect this will be useful for practitioners and their clients who are searching for a translator or interpreter.
  • Practitioner profiles with no contact details will not be displayed in the directory.
  • Accreditations held under the former accreditation system will no longer be displayed. Instead, the first year a practitioner was granted a NAATI credential will display. This will reduce confusion while still allowing people using the directory to see years of experience.

What information can practitioners add?

In addition to what is already shown on a practitioner profile (name, NAATI credentials, location, phone, email and website), practitioners will now be able to add more fields.

These are all optional and require them to be toggled on and information added to the practitioner’s myNAATI profile to display.

  • Photo
  • Gender
  • Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander identity
  • Working dialects – linked to the practitioner’s credentialed languages (up to 5)
  • Qualifications (up to 4)
  • Services provided (up to 6)
  • Domain expertise (up to 6)

The new fields (except photo and gender) are not verified by NAATI. These changes are built on the ethical principle of professional conduct, trusting practitioners to provide honest, accurate information about their skills and experience.

The video below explains how to display any of the new fields above.

When can these changes be made?

Practitioners can update their information anytime from now in myNAATI. However, it will not display on the online directory until the new website goes live in March 2026.

FAQs for practitioners

The profile photo and gender cannot be modified through your myNAATI account. To update these, please send the request to info@naati.com.au

To add services and/or domains other than the ones listed, select the “Other” checkbox, then type in the Service or Domain you would like to display.

You are welcome to provide feedback via the form below if you think an additional service or domain should be added to the list.

Domain expertise refers to a practitioner’s knowledge and experience in a specific subject area, such as legal, medical, health, education or community services.

When someone is searching for a practitioner with relevant domain expertise, it can help ensure them that the interpreting or translation is accurate, appropriate and fit for purpose. Listing domain expertise in the NAATI online directory is optional and chosen by the practitioner, and is not verified by NAATI. If a practitioner has not listed domain expertise, it does not mean they lack experience in that area.

No. Your accreditation history isn’t being removed.

We’re simply no longer listing past accreditations to reduce confusion with the current certification system. The ‘Year of first NAATI credential’ will still show the year you first received any NAATI credential (including before 2018), so consumers can easily see your years of experience.

To show/hide the fields, toggle the “ON/OFF” option under the “Online Directory” column.

Displaying gender on the online directory is optional and up to the practitioner.

In some cultures, a person may only feel comfortable speaking with an interpreter of a certain gender. For example, a woman may prefer a female interpreter for sensitive health or legal matters. Providing this option helps clients feel safe and respected, and ensures communication is accurate.

The following information is verified by NAATI:

  • Name
  • Photo
  • Gender
  • Phone
  • Address
  • Email address
  • Credentials

Other profile information is not verified. By updating your profile, you confirm that the information provided is accurate and reflects your current qualifications and professional experience. Inaccurate or misleading information may impact your credential status.

Feedback?

We will review these changes after 6 months (approximately Aug-Sept 2026) to make any necessary adjustments. If you have feedback about the changes, please fill out this simple form instead of emailing us. This will allow us to collate and review feedback holistically.
