NSW Health Care Interpreter Services across NSW Local Health Districts are offering a fully funded scholarship program for bilingual individuals across NSW who are interested in starting a rewarding career in healthcare interpreting.

This program will support participants to develop professional interpreting skills, gain practical experience, and prepare for the NAATI Certified Provisional Interpreter (CPI) certification, opening pathways to work within the NSW Health system.

What the program offers:

  • A fully funded and structured online interpreter training course (approximately 21 weeks) designed to prepare participants for the NAATI Certified Provisional Interpreter (CPI) test. Participants should expect a study commitment of approximately 15–20 hours per week. The course will start in June 2026 and finish in October 2026.
  • Workplace mentoring program at a later stage to strengthen your interpreting skills and contextual knowledge.
  • 18 months of Recognised Practicing Interpreter (RPI) status upon successful completion of the course assessment.
  • Fees covered for your first NAATI CPI test.
  • Ongoing professional development support.
  • Pathways to work with NSW Health Care Interpreter Services.

Who should apply:

  • Bilingual speakers fluent in English and another language other than English.
  • Interested in becoming professional healthcare interpreters.
  • Demonstrated strong communication skills.
  • Existing NAATI Recognised Practice Interpreters seeking NAATI CPI certification.
  • Must be committed to completing the full program, and pursuing NAATI certification.
  • Must be available for the entire course.

Important

  • Applicants will be notified by email regarding the outcome of their application in April 2026. Shortlisted applicants will be invited to attend an online interview.
  • All applicants must sit an Intake Test to assess their proficiency in both English and their Language Other Than English (LOTE).
  • Only candidates who pass the intake test will be enrolled in the scholarship program.
  • Priority may be given to languages based on identified service needs across the Hunter New England, Illawarra Shoalhaven, and Sydney metropolitan Local Health Districts.
