Transitioning from old catalogue to new
No. All professional development (PD) activities recorded under the previous catalogue have been mapped to the new categories and transferred to the new system. You do not need to re-enter or update any existing PD activities.
No. Existing entries have already been mapped to the appropriate categories and do not need to be updated.
Due to an issue during the transition, some work practice and translation word count records were not transferred to the new system. We are working with our developers to determine whether this information can be recovered.
In the meantime, if you need to recertify, NAATI can accept reasonable estimates of work completed during this period, along with a range of supporting evidence.
For translators
It is no longer compulsory to maintain detailed word count logs in myNAATI to meet recertification requirements. Translation work can now recorded through a single entry in Category D.2 if you wish to add this activity.
Your digital stamp can be downloaded through myNAATI. A step-by-step guide will be published shortly.
You can read more about the digital IDs here: https://www.naati.com.au/resources/naati-practitioner-identification/
You can now use a digital stamp from your myNAATI account.
If you selected a physical stamp and are waiting for it to arrive, check with your client or organisation about their requirements.
In many cases, you can certify your translation by including:
- your first and last name
- your NAATI Practitioner ID
- your credential direction (for example, English into LOTE or LOTE into English)
- your credential expiry date
- your signature
Please note that some organisations, including government departments, may only accept stamped translations. In these cases, you may need to wait for your physical stamp to arrive.
Logbook
Each category has a minimum points required, however you must achieve a total of 120 points overall to meet recertification requirements. This means you need to get more than the minimum points in at least one category to reach 120 points and apply for recertification.
PD points are awarded at 5 points per hour. When recording activities, round the duration to the nearest whole hour. For example, a 1.5-hour activity can be recorded as 2 hours.
No. Activities are never added automatically. You must record webinar attendance yourself and upload any required evidence.
No. Extra professional development points cannot be carried over to your next recertification period.
Each time you recertify, NAATI only considers activities completed between:
- the date your credential was granted, and
- the date you submit your recertification application
However, if you submit your application before your credential expiry date, any activities completed after submission can be included in your next recertification period.
Professional development activities must be completed within your certification period to count towards your total.
Some activities also have a maximum number of points that can be claimed. Once that limit has been reached, additional activities in the same category will not add more points.
Once your application has been submitted, you can no longer edit your logbook in myNAATI.
If you need to make changes, email recertification@naati.com.au and our team can assist you.

Expiry and extensions
No. If you apply for recertification up to 12 months before or 12 months after your certification expiry date, your new certification period will begin from your current expiry date, not the date your application is approved.
For example:
If your current credential expires in 2028 and you apply one year early, the new expiry date will still be 2031 (i.e. three years added to 2028).
If your current credential expires in 2026 and you apply 8 months later to recertify, the new expiry date will still be 2029 (i.e. three years added to 2026).
Previously, practitioners could submit a recertification application up to three months after their certification expiry date. This period has now been extended to 12 months.
If your certification expires, you can still apply for recertification for up to 12 months after the expiry date without having to sit another certification test. The new recertification requirements apply to you.
Please note that your certification will expire on the certification expiry date, even if you plan to recertify later. You cannot represent yourself as a NAATI-certified practitioner and you will not appear as certified in the NAATI online directory until your recertification application has been approved.
If you do not recertify within 12 months of your certification expiry date, you will generally need to sit and pass a new certification test to regain your credential.
No. If you require an extension to your expiry date, you must contact NAATI at info@naati.com.au before your certification expires.
Certification extension (before expiry)
If you are unable to meet the recertification requirements due to a significant life event, such as parental leave, illness or caring responsibilities, you can apply for a one-year extension before your certification expires.
If approved, your certification expiry date will change to one year later. You can then apply for certification any time between 12 months before and 12 months after your new expiry date.
Late recertification application (after expiry)
If your certification expires before you apply for recertification, you can still submit a recertification application for up to 12 months after the expiry date without needing to sit a new certification test.
However, your certification will be expired during this period and you cannot represent yourself as a NAATI-certified practitioner until your recertification application is approved.
If you do not recertify within 12 months of your certification expiry date, you will generally need to sit and pass a new certification test to regain your credential.
Yes.
You can do one of the following:
- Apply for a 12-month extension if you have had a significant life event during the recertification period by emailing us at info@naati.com.au. Parental leave, illness or caring responsibilities will all be considered if you provide some evidence.
- Submit your application with as much detail as possible about your professional development, even if you don’t think you meet the minimum recertification criteria. This allows us to assess your application and contact you for more information, provide guidance on your application or consider granting some flexibility.
Contact us for advice or support at recertification@naati.com.au
If you do not apply for recertification, or if you cannot show that you have maintained your skills and knowledge, your credential/s will expire.
